Hello,

Mary C. age 37 b in TN
John O. age 17 b in TN
Mary A. E. age 14 b in TN
William A. age 13 b in TN
David L. age 7 b in TN
Thomas L. age 4 b in TN

Living with them were

I have found the Knights still in Smith county in the 1860 census.

Subject: [TNSMITH-L] Smith Co Reacords

Hi,
I have been stumped on an ancestor that came through Smith Co for quite a while now. I can't seem to get back that one more generation. John Luckey enlisted in the War of 1812 in Carthage, TN in the fall of 1813. His 2nd wife applied for a widow's pension. In her application papers she states that they were married 28 Jan 1828. John was married to his first wife Mary PollyBaker in Smith Co also. In a sworn affidavait John B. Jordon , Clerk of the County, states that he has made a diligent search in his office for the marriage license of the above named people. He further states that " I am reliably informed and believe that the Court House of Smith County was occupied by Federal Soldiers for a considerable time during the late war, and many of the papers with records of said office were destroyed and lost and it is highly probably that said license were destroyed."  With this knowledge here is my question. What early records are available in Smith Co. to help me in my research other than the 1820 census? I am not sure that they owned land. I am traveling to Tn soon, and where would they be located? This family resided in Alexandria at the time of JOhn's death.
Thanks for any help!
Teri

Do you know if this branch of Butler's went to Carroll Co, TN? I have a Mariah Jane Butler b SC who married Patrick H. Salmon 30 Jan 1844 in Carroll Co. I have been trying to find her parents. She and her husband moved to Marshall Co MS after their first daughter Savanah Jane Salmon was born. Savanah later married SA Brown and moved back to Carroll Co TN.(1869) This is a branch I'm stuck on ~ the Butler's. I have info from another researcher I'll pull out later when I have time.
Would love to trade info, and hope something looks familiar.

Would anyone know if she's online or have her present address? I want to chat with her on BAIRD/PARRIS/BRASWELL lines.
