BEARDEN - HAYS - MASON

I would like very much to find some descendants of James W. Bearden and Julia S. Hays.  I do know that Julia was b. in 1848, and her parents were Abram S. Hays and Jane Mason.  I would like to have names of children of Julia's and also would like further information on her parents, Abram S. and Jane Hays.  They were living in Oconee Co., SC in 1860; Abram died in 1864, due to service in the Civil War, but Jane was still living in Oconee in 1880.  I do know they were buried in Old Providence Cemetery, Hwy 24, Oconee Co., SC, and have their dates from a listing of this cemetery.  I think Jane Mason's father may have been Andrew Mason and her mother was named Esther, but that is all I know.  I would like further information. Thanks

DODGENS - CANTRELL - FISHER - REEVES

I am searching for the family of LOU (possibly Winnie Lou) DODGENS and MACK CANTRELL of Oconee County at about the turn of the 20th century.  I have reason to believe but have not been able to prove that Mack may be BENJAMIN M. CANTRELL, son of THOMAS CANTRELL, son of WILLIAM H. CANTRELL... My grandmother is Lou and Mack's daughter ADDIE CANTRELL who married WILLIAM LESTER REEVES of Pickens County in about 1924-5.  They moved with their three boys (Bill, Blease, Chuck) to Oregon in 1930. Grandma Addie is 92 and not too sure of the details, but there is some confusion with a FISHER family of the area. The family story goes that Mack's mother died as he was being born and she gave him to the midwife, possibly a BETTIE FISHER, to raise.  Growing up, he used the FISHER name and changed to CANTRELL as an adult.  What became of his father is not known, but Grandma Addie says Mack himself died young.  Some sources tell me he had another wife after Granny Lou, so I am just not sure. Grandma Addie's siblings are/were Benjamin H. Cantrell, John Cantrell, Wallace Cantrell, Rena Cantrell Cash, Nita "Neet"Cantrell McKinney, Myrtle "Myrt" Cantrell Gilstrap and Ila Cantrell Thomas. I have lots of information, not much proof. If you can help, I'm glad to share.

DOUGHTY

I am looking for the grave and parents of Joseph DOUGHTY 1747-1815.  He died in Oconee County in 1815.  Joseph and his wife Nancy/Ann owned land from the late 1790 ties until 1829 on the Coneross Creek where Perkins Creek comes in.  Does anyone know of an old Baptist church in this area?  This area is Southwest of Seneca. Joseph had sons Daniel, Jeremiah, and Joseph T.  Daniel died in 1805. Joseph and Nancy/Ann had girls Sarah, Rhody, and Nancy.  The first time i find Joseph is buying land on the Tyger River near Tygerville in 1785.  Nancy sold the Oconee homeplace in 1829 and moved to Alabama where her sons had relocated, so the line has been lost.   Any help to find the grave site and the parents of Joseph is appreciated.

William H. Stephenson was born Dec. 2, 1817, in the Anderson District of SC, according to his Civil War Records.  The Anderson District wasn't formed until the mid 1820s so I'm not sure where he was born, but I think it could be somewhere in the Anderson, Oconee or Pickens county areas.  William Married Salina C. Browning on July 8, 1849 in Chambers County, Alabama, at the Antioch Baptist Church.  The church records show that William Joined the Antioch Church on Aug. 4, 1849 with a letter from the Bethlehem Church.  Unfortunately, the church records do not say where this Bethlehem Church is located.  I have searched the county areas around the Antioch Church where he was married and cannot locate a Bethlehem Church where he was a member.  His first appearance in Alabama is on the 1850 Census so I'm thinking he may have still been in SC, somewhere.  William died in 1910 and his death certificate states that his parents are James and Margaret Stephenson.  Will appreciate any data on any of the above mentioned individuals.

THOMPSON

Daniel H. THOMPSON was born in South Carolina - don't know county or parents.   We can't locate him before 1850, when he was in Georgia with Elizabeth (178?-??) who we believe might have been his mother.  By 1860 he was married to Mary Jane CONNELL and living in Coweta County, GA.  Elizabeth still lived with them, also Thomas CONNELL (1782-1861), Mary Jane's father.  Daniel was in the Confederate Army, buried in Atlanta.   According to family legend, there's an Indian connection somewhere.  We believe it might have  been Elizabeth. If you can locate birth or other records in your county of him, we'd appreciate it very much.
