I am interested in anyone who may be connected to the Samuel W. COTHRAN family of Pickens County.  In the 1876 settlement of his property the following children were listed: Andrew, William, Joseph, Benjamin, Martha E., Eliza COTHRAN, Mahala SUTTLES, Mary DODSON, Jane DURHAM and Rebecca McKINNEY. In 1876, this litigation states that Benjamin, Martha and Eliza were minors under the age of 20. The other children were of age. Does anyone know anything about this family? Where did these COTHRAN children go.  At this time, some of them  had already moved from Pickens Co and the state. William had moved to Georgia, Mary was in North Carolina and married to a Dodson. Rebecca was in Georgia and married to a McKINNEY. The younger children must have been with some of the older ones. Benjamin was in Georgia, Martha in NC and it was not listed were Elisa was living. Mahala SUTTLES was in Walhalla. Would very much like to communicate with any descendants of this COTHRAN family.

We have been researching WILLIAM  W. CRUMPTON  from Pickens Dist. and Oconee County.  He was born about 1795.  We think our William, who shows up in Pickens Dist, SC in 1850 census with wife Jane and 9 children, is the same as our W.W.CRUMPTON who is in the 1860 census with Nancy A.ROGERS but we can't prove it.  Family story is he was married before Nancy and his wife died.  He married Nancy in 1861, died between 1870 and 1880.  Children of William and Jane are:James, William J., Sarah, Eveline Marion, Melmouth, Albert Pickney, Jane, Elizabeth, and Martha.  Children of William and Nancy CRUMPTON are: John H., Robert Henry, Mary, Josephine, Alexander S. and Marshall. William W.CRUMPTON is my ggrandfather. We desperately need birth and death dates, where buried, and where he was before Oconee. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for family of my gggrandfather, Samuel DeARMAN (DEARMAN) who was born 1815 in what became Rabun Co, GA.  He was first found on a census in 1840 in Pickens Dist., SC and in 1842  was married to Sarah Ann KNOX, dau of James KNOX and Mary Ann ABBOTT Knox of Pickens Dist., SC.  I know nothing about his parents or siblings.  He was in the Civil War in the home guard in Pickens  Dist., SC.

An aging grandson (Willie PERKINS) who lived in Wichita Falls, Tx. (d 1985), said his grandfather (Samuel DeARMAN) was the grandson of an Cherokee "chief of chiefs" and said his name was Walhalla (my sister spelled it phonetically) or something very near to that.  He said they were from that area of SC.  All of that territory including the land that became Rabun Co., GA would have been Indian Territory when Samuel was born.

Samuel and Sarah DeARMAN lived in Pickens Dist., SC until after the Civil War and in 1866 Samuel was ordained a Baptist minister in Flat Rock, Franklin co., GA.  He was next apparently in Cherokee Co., GA where my ggreagrandmother, Rebecca Carolina DeARMAN, married William Mallory KENNEDY in 1868.  There were then found on the 1870 census in Floyd Co., GA and then in Yell Co., AR in 1880.  Samuel and Sarah both died in Yell Co., AR.  Sarah Ann Knox DeArman died in 1879 in Gravely Hill, Yell Co. AR and Samuel died ca 1885 in Yell Co.

The children of Sarah Ann and Samuel DeArman were:  America (illigitimate child of Sarah b ca 1838, and Col. Jesse McKinney, who died soon thereafter.  She married William PERKINS who was in Orr's Rifles and was killed in Richmond Va in the Civil War.  He left two children, John Haralson PERKINS and Amanda PERKINS. America remarried in AR to a man named Robert UNDERWOOD or Robert WOOD and died before 1879. James ROBERT who served in Orr's Rifles and died in the Civil War at Richmond, VA., Mary Ann TEXAS who married Samuel P. MOORE and went to Yell Co. AR,  Rebecca Carolina (my ggrandmother) who married William Mallory KENNEDY and came to Texas by 1882 and John W.S. who married Isabella FRYE in Yell Co. AR and died there.

If anyone has any info on Samuel, his siblings, parents or anything, please let me know.  I will be happy to share whatever I have which might be of interest on any of my allied lines.

If the STRONG name is a old one in Walhalla I would be glad to hear that also, even if Cornelia is not known; that will tell me I am in the right area perhaps. Many thanks.

I am doing research on the SUTTLES, ROACH and TURNER families of Oconee County from the early 1800's to the present. Any information would be of great help.

My TODDs settled in the Chauga Creek area of Oconee Co. in the early 1800s.  They remained in that area until about 1900.  There seems to be no record of land ownership of my direct lineage but there is a deed of a William TODD that had 1500 acres in the Chauga area.  I suspect that my family might be related to him and lived and worked on his farm. This William I believe had a son named Adam.  My direct ancestors are as follows:  David Odell TODD (born GA early 1900s) > Coke Daniel TODD (born Oconee Co. - Chauga area) > William Lathan TODD (married Rebecca HERBERT) > Samuel David TODD (know as David - married Mary Elizabeth "Polly" DAVIS) >  John TODD and wife Martha (came from Ireland in1812).  Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated.
