Harvey A. KELLEY appeared out of nowehere in 1870 and there's no record of him before that. He is alleged to have come from what was Pickens District, SC near Walhalla. There are family rumors that there was a name change by Harvey about 1864. There is strong circumstantial evidence that his name was Elisha H. DORSEY. It appears that Harvey KELLEY did not exist before 1870 and E. H. DORSEY did not exist after 1860. Apparently, E. H. DORSEY and Louisa (unknown) with son John were documented in 1860 and Harvey KELLEY and Louisa BAUKNIGHT KELLEY are documented in 1870.

Seeking the parents of John JAMES b. ca. 1796 SC d. ca. 1875 Oconee Co., SC, and the parents of his wife Delila/Lila MOSLEY b. ca. 1819; m. ca. 1840 Pickens Co.; d. ca. 1885 Oconee Co. He was a miller/farmer in Pickens/Oconee Co., apparently dying without estate. No evidence has been found in Pickens and Oconee land records that he ever owned property and the only public record bearing his name is a Petit Jury List of October, 1841 for Pickens County. His name does not appear on the 1868 Voter Registration Rolls for Oconee but does appear in the 1870 Census. He was a known consort of William ROWLAND, owner and operator of the circa 1870 toll road, now Highway 107, from Walhalla to the North Carolina line. His eldest son, Theodore Perry JAMES, married Harriet Caroline ROWLAND, the daughter of William ROWLAND and Floride REESE of the REESE-HARRIS-PICKENS- CALHOUN lines. Theodore and Harriet ROWLAND JAMES are buried at the Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Mountain Rest. Other children of John and Delila/Lila were: Mary Caroline b. ca. 1842; Matilda Adeline b. ca. 1843; Canzady Jane b. ca. 1849; Columbus b. 1853; Samuel Gordon b. 1857; Warren b. 1859; and Savalia (male) b. 1864. The only clue to the MOSLEY line is that the informant on the 1936 SC death certificate of Theodore Perry JAMES was a Mr. H. C. MOSLEY of Anderson, SC. This was possibly a MOSLEY cousin but have not been able to identify this person and have even searched the 1920 Census for a MOSLEY/MOSELY whose name matches those initials.
