Looking for info on grandfather, Roland Erwin AIKEN b. abt. 1886 SC. He was raised by a PATTERSON family in Seneca, Oconee Co., SC. The first names mentioned were Earl, Pat, and Carrie (Carey?). Some of them were alive in the 1930s. No other info. Roland left home before 1900 and traveled the country, so is not listed in a PATTERSON family in 1900 census. Searching for the ancestors of James Lewis CHAPMAN. Census data indicates he was born abt 1797 in SC (perhaps Pendleton District). He moved to Ohio Co., KY prior to 1819 and by 1830 was living Warrick Co., IN. While living in KY, he married Margery TAYLOR (4 Feb 1819) whose family moved there from Fredrick Co., VA. James and Margery had six children: James Lewis, Mary Ann, Melvina C., Levi Lewis, James Harvey, and Susan Caroline. Following Margery's death, James Lewis married 2 Sep 1840 Warrick Co. IN, Rebecca DICKEY. They had four children: Elisha E., Zachary T., Willis M. and Delilah Sophrenia. James Lewis died 24 July 1853 Warrick Co., IN. There are only vague clues about family's SC origin. The frequent use of the name "James" is perhaps the strongest. Pendlton District has the only "James" found in SC census (1800 and 1810) with a son whose age matches that of James Lewis CHAPMAN. Additionally, James Lewis named one of his sons' Willis, and there is a Willis CHAPMAN in the Pendleton District of 1810. Admittedly, these are long shots. I have fairly extensive info on the family descendants from this point forward, which I would be glad to share with anyone interested in researching this family. 12 Nov 1997

Have several deeds that sho him owning land on Crooked Creek of the Little Keowee River, som of which land was purchased from Jeremiah HUBBARD in 1836. Also have deed showing land transactions between Jeremiah (think he's Zachariah's father) and Ann HUBBARD (later McCrary?) and Patrick HUBBARD. Also transactions between Anna and Zachariah and Rebecca HUBBARD, Sarah VANDYKE and Zachariah the last relinquishing inheritance rights to Zachariah. There are no Release of Dower statements on any of these deeds and this is only indication that these people all fit together other than the ages and living locations are all close. 4 Sep 1997
