"The war between Spain and Great Britain, which started in 1739, was the forerunner of the French and English War, in which the American colonies were active from 1744 to 1748.
"The following description of Rhode Island's part in the struggle is taken from Arnold's History of the State, and the Muster Rolls of three of the companies enlisted are here first printed from the manuscript copeis in the archives of the State."
NOTE: The original list was written at a time when a double
S in the middle of a word looked like 'fs' and the letter P sometimes looked
like an 'f', etc. Unfortunately, this manuscript was not typeset by someone
who knew this. Where possible the probably spelling of a name has been
inserted in [brackets]. To find a name use the "Find in This Page" function
