Jean L. Weinberg (1979-80)


STEUBENVILLE- Jean L. Weinberg 58, of 818 South St. Steubenville, died in Ohio Valley Hospital.

She was born in Weirton June 19, 1922, daughter of the late Frank and Eugene Herb Irwin.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard K. Weinberg in 1970.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs Thomas (Joanne) Scharfinberg of Tronto, a son Howard K. Weinberg Jr., Steubenville.

Friends will be received at McClave Chandler Mills Funeral Home 2-4 and 7-9 today were sevices will be held Tuesday 3p.m. with the Rev. Eugene Oliver officiating. Interment Union Cemetery.

MICHAEL WELTON

Michael Welton died at his home on Washington Street on Sunday at 3:30 a. m. aged 88 years. He had been in failing health for some time following a stroke on Sunday week ago. He was born in Ireland, and had lived here for five years. He was a Civil War Veteran. He was married to Ellen Fox, who survives with these children: Mrs. Mary Nolan of Kensington, Ohio; Robert of Cleveland; Mrs. Ellen Meek of Wheeling; Mrs. Kate Burrier, of Bridgeport; James of Wheeling: David of Pittsburg; and Mrs. Hannah Wagner of Toledo. His remains were taken to Bellaire today for interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Dr. J. F. Whitaker, one of the most prominent physicians in Jerfferson County, died at his home in Bloomfield at 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 1913. His death was due to pneumonia with which he has suffered for over a week. Dr. Whitaker had been a resident for about 30 years and had built up a large practice in the community in which he lived. He was a member of the M. E. church there and took a prominent part in all church work. He is survived by his wife, Phoebe Jane (Robertson) and two sons. WILLIAMSON INFANT William John, infant son of L.V., and Mary Cucack Williamson, of George's Run, died December 31 at 10 p.m., aged 2 days . Funeral services were held Monday from the home with interment in George's Run Cemetery. Steubenville Herald Star Jan 3, 1928

Mrs. Susie Marie Wilson, wife of David R. Wilson, died of complications at 7 a.m. today at her home, 417 Edgewod Place. She had been in failing health for sometime.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Steubenville, the daughter of Mrs. Valerie Lowmiller Barr, and the late John H. Barr. She had lived her entire life in Steubenville. Besides her husband and mother, she leaves three children; Floyd John Wilson, Candor Pa; Arthur Glenn Wilson, U.S. Army, medical corps, stationed in Texas; Davd Chester Wilson, Steubenville. Also surviving are two brothers, Harry Barr and Robert Barr, both of Steubenville, and one sister Mrs. Charles Keys, Toledo.

She was a member of the Christian church. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending the arrival of her son from Texas. Part Two: Wilson: January 5, 1945, Mrs. Susie M. Barr, beloved wife of David R. Wilson. Friends received at Burford FuneralHome, 644 Market Street, wher eservices will be held on Monday January 8, 1945 at 3:30. Mrs. Alvena Wolter Summoned by Death

Mrs. Alvena Melching Wolter died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Hughes, 126 Langley avenue, Thursday at 4:30 p.m. She had been ill but a few days.

Mrs. Wolter was 75 years of age February 13, 1939. She was born in Hanover, Germany, the daughter of William and Alvena Bremer Melching, who came to Steubenville in 1878. She was married to Ernst Wolter who died in this city in 1929.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John W. Kincaide of Hamilton, Ohio; Mrs. William Hughes of this city; three sons, Ernest and George of Steubenville, and Charles of Toronto; two brothers, William Melching of this city and Louis, at Alikanna. There are 16 gradchildren and ten grandchildren.

Mrs. Wolter was a member of Zion Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. She was confirmed as a child by Rev. Hermann, now of Hamilton, Oho.

Mrs. Wolter was an earnest Christian woman, one who was known for her fine friendliness and pleasing personality which endeared her to many who will regret her death.

Mrs.Kate WHITACRE, aged 93,died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of a daughter; Mrs. Raynond LODGE 455 Somer St. Mrs.WHITACRE was born in Wayne Twp. Feb. 15,1856, a daughter of Jacob & Charity (cm: BAKER) RICE. Her husband Judson WHITACRE, died 16 years ago. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Midway Grange. Mrs. WHITACRE leaves two daughters, Mrs. LODGE and Mrs.John CLUNEN of Leetonia; three sons, George & Terry of R.D. 1 Leetonia and Charles of Alliance: 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and a brother Wesley RICE of Detroit.Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday at the Woods Funeral Home where friends may call Monday afternoon and evening.

Ernest Wolter


Ernest Wolter, who had resided here for 52 years and been employed at the Steubenville Pottery for 37 years, died on Monday at 11:40 a. m. at his home, 732 Prospect avenue. He was retired from active work four years ago. He had been a sufferer from asthma for two years and was ill but for days. He was born in Bartofelde, near Hanover, Germany, January 30, 1859. He was married to Alvena Melching on June 8, 1881 and his wife survives with these children: Ernest Jr., Charles C., George E., Mrs. William Kinkaid of Hamilton, O.; Mrs. William Hughes of this city. Also seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was a member of Zion Lutheran church and the Schwaben Society. One sister survives, Mrs. William Diederich of this city. A brother Fred died in Missouri two months ago. He was an industrious and respected citizen.

Obituary Herald-Star Sunday, January 8, 1984


Steubenville -- Mary B. Worley, 78, of Steubenville, died Saturday at McGee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and of the Catholic Women's Club of the church.

Surviving are her husband, Walter C. Worley; one son, John D. Worley of Scio; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Marcia) Weinrich of Kansas City, MO; three sisters, Grace Sperry of Steubenville, Eleanor Wolcott of Lagrange, Texas, and Catherine Mayberry of Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Born March 10, 1905 in Steubenville, she was the daughter of the late edwin and Anna Price Anderson.

There will be no public calling hours. Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the McClave - Chandler - Mills Funeral Home, Wintersville; Services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius Church and burial in Union Cemetery.
