MURDER VICTIM IS LAID TO REST
Funeral of George Simmons, Slain in Florida, Held Here Today

The body of George W. Simmons, 83, retired plasterer, who was the victim of a "hammer murder" near Lake City, Florida, one week ago, arrived here Sunday night and was taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. I. D. Bucey on Sunset Boulevard.

Funeral services were held this afternoon, the Reverend J. S. Allen, pastor of the La Belle View Christian Church, officiating. The church choir furnished the nusic. Internment was made in Union Cemetery.

At Lake City Saturday, a corner's jury heard testimony of witnesses in the murder case and formally charged E.L.Booth, 27 and his birde Helen Simmons Booth, 18, of Steubenville, with the crime.

The jury found that Simmons whose body was found in the woods near Lake City last Tuesday, came to his death "by a deadly weapon, a blunt instrument at the hands of E.L. Booth and Mrs. Helen Booth and the same was murder in the first degree"

The couple disappeared and despite a statewide search, authorities have been unable to locate them.

Saw Booth Beat Simmons

Witnesses testified that they saw the Booth car traveling along the highway at a high rate of speed with the young husband standing on the running board beating the aged man over the head, while Mrs. Booth drove.

Simmons and the couple had spent two weeks in a one room cottage at a tourist camp here and during that time witnesses related many quarrels took place. They left the camp Monday night and Tuesday Simmons body was found by C. B. Messer, operator of the camp where they stayed.

The bloodstained Booth car was found abandoned in Jacksonville, and since then no trace of the missing couple has been found. Authorities believed the old man was robbed of a large sum of money which he was reported to have possessed.
