Ruth Ekey Rickel

Ruth Ekey Rickel, 92, formerly of 42 E. Third St., Ashland, died Saturday morning at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

She was born May 1, 1906 in West Salem, the daughter of Russell B. and Anna O’Keefe Ekey. When Ruth was 4 years old, her parents died and she was raised by the late Bertha and John Guderjahn in the West Salem area.

She was a graduate of West Salem High School. She had been a resident of Ashland since 1923, moving here from Wayne County. She was a former employee of the Faultless Rubber Company for 19 years and Westinghouse of Mansfield for 12 years where she worked on the production line and in the packing department for both companies. Her most recent employment was with the custodial department of the Ashland County Court House until she retired in 1973.

She was married April 11, 1942 to Merle (Jim) Rickel, who preceded her in death on March 30, 1979.

She is survived by distand cousins and her close friend Florine Varner of Ashland.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with Chuck Hensel officiating. Burial will be at the Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home Tuesday

Mary Lucille Ekey Robinson

Mary L. Ekey Robinson - Age 96 - of Summerfield Florida (a former resident of Canton, Ohio and Stratton, Ohio) passed away Tuesday - April 10, 2001 at Specialty Care of Lady Lake, Florida.

Mary was a 68 year resident of Canton, Ohio until 1998.. She was born September 4, 1904 in Stratton, Ohio (Formerly Ekeyville, Ohio), the daughter of John and Emma Dunlap Ekey.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Marshall F. Robinson in 1974. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Ekey and a sister, Esther Macmillan.

Mary was dedicated school teacher. She taught in Empire, Ohio for two years and then at Canton’s Martin and Allen grade schools for 27 years.

She actively pursed a life long interest in genealogy as a member of the Jefferson County Historical Society. In 1976, she wrote “The Village of Stratton” story and co-wrote the “History of Hollow Rock Camp Meeting”.

Mary is a member of the Empire United Methodist Church, Empire, Ohio.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marshall J. and Phyllis Robinson of Summerfield, Florida, two grandsons - Mark S. Robinson of Canton and Brian K. Robinson of Palatine, Illinois.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A. M. to 12:00 P. M. Monday, April 16, 23001 at Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main Street, Toronto, Ohio.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P. M. Monday at the funeral home with Reverend Sam Troyer officiating.

Burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Empire, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Empire United Methodist Church, State Route 7, Empire, Ohio 43926
