Andrew Wesley Ekey

Andrew Wesley Ekey, 74 of Wintersville, died in his home Wednesday, at 11:25 p.m. He had been ill for some time

Born in Steubenville, June 30, 1879, the son of the late Rev. John H. and Myra Shull Ekey, he was a farmer and later a carpenter by trade. Mr. Ekey was a member of the Wintersville Methodist Church and a teacher of the Men’s Bible Class. Earlier in his life, he belonged to the Ekey Methodist Church where he served on the executive board and was superintendent of the Sunday School.

He was married Dec. 25, 1906, to Jennie Bell Ekey, who died Dec 5, 1936. He later married the former Roma Beatty. Survivors are his widow, four children, Mrs. Ruth Weaver of RD1, Steubenville, Mrs. Grace Freas of Richmond, John H. Ekey of Rd1, Martins Ferry, and James E. Ekey of Rd4, Steubenville; three sisters Mary a. Ekey of Alliance, Emma Ekey of Rd 2 Steubenville, and Viola Ekey of Lakeside, O.; and seven grandchildren. A brother, Rev. John B. Ekey, preceeded him in death.

Friends will be received at the Dunlope Funeral Home, Fernwood Road. Services will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m. in the Wintersville Methodist Church. The Rev. John E. Longsworth will officiate. Burial will be in Wintersville Cemetery.

Mrs. A.. W. Ekey

Mrs. Jennie Belle Ekey, wife of A. W. Ekey of near Fernwood, died following a stroke on Monday at 6:30 p.m. She was born August 8, 1877, on Bantam Ridge, the daughter of Henry and Mary Maxwell Ekey, both deceased.

She was married on Christmas day, 1906, to Mr. Ekey by his father, Rev. J. H. Ekey. The husband and four children survive, Mrs. Ruth weaver of near Wintersville; Grace, John and James at home; also a brother, George of Wintersville, and a sister, Mrs, J. M. Hook, of Goulds. Deceased are a brother, Jesse, and a sister, Hittie.

Mrs. Ekey was converted as a girl at Ekey’s M. E. church. Her membrship was later transferred to Wintersville M. E. church. An earnest Christian woman, she was held in high respect in the community where she lived, and to all who knew Mrs. Ekey, her death will come as a matter of regret. –The Hearld-Star, Steubenville, Ohio, December 6, 1936

Cassandra Ekey

Wintersville--Mrs. Cassandra Jane Ekey, 87, of Elmsford, N.Y., a former Wintersville resident, died Saturday at 10:30 p.m. in the home of her daughter Miss Mary F. Ekey with whom she lived.

Mrs. Ekey was preceded in death by her hustband, Albert B. Ekey, two sisters and two brothers.

She was the daughter of the late Franklin and Ella Rine Tarr and was born in Jefferson County.

Funeral services will be held in the Wintersville Methodist Church where she was formerly a member before moving to New York 14 years ago. The Rev. Mr., L. O. Douds will conduct the services Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Charles E. Ekey

Kent, Ohio– Charles E. Ekey, 68 of 1915 Route 5, a native of Stratton died Tuesday in the Robinson Memorial Hospital at Ravenna, Ohio. He had been hospitalized since December 19.

Mr. Ekey had been employed the past eight years as a custodian at Kent State University. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie of Steubenville.

He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Merle Nixon n, Mrs. Mary Malony of leelan and Mrs. Myrtle Reece of Steubenville.

Mr. Ekey was born Nov. 11, 1894 at Stratton.

Friends may call at the Tinker Funeral Home in Kent from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home Burial will be in Toronto Union Cemetery. –Tuesday January 10, 1963

Charles Wesley Ekey

Martins Ferry – Charles Wesley Ekey, 20, of Scotch Ridge, RD 1, Martins Ferry, was pronounced dead on arrival at Martins Ferry Hospital at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was injured fatally when a truck he was driving overturned at the junction Ohio Rt. 798 and 647, two miles south of Mount Pleasant.

He was born Feb. 9 , 1939, in Steubenville, the son of John and Edna Margaret Thorburn Ekey.

He was employed as a truck driver for the Kehrer and Angeles Florist of Martin Ferry.

He leaves his parents, and two sisters, Joyce Ann Ekey and Margaret Ekey, Both at home.

Friends may call at the Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Scotch Ridge Cemetery , RD 1, Martins Ferry.

Edna Ekey

St. Clairsville - Edna Thorburn Ekey, 77 of 72889 Mercer Road, formerly of Scotch Ridge, near Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday in Heartland-Lansing Nursing Center, Bridgeport.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Joyce Ann) Dorsch of Colerain and Margaret Ekey of St. Clairsville; two brothers, Paul Thorburn of Zanesville and James Thorburn of Hammond, La.; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Jean) McKim of Cambridge; and a grandson.

She was born Sept. 24, 1909, in Scotch Ridge, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ruble Thorburn . She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ekey, in October 1982; a son, Charles, in July 1959; and a brother.

Edward T. Ekey , 89, died at his home at Scio after an illness of a year on Sunday, June 15, 1919. He was born at Fernwood February 25, 1830. These children survive, J. Howard Ekey of Steubenville; Mrs Amanda McCullough, of Fernwood; Harriett, Mary and Ida at Scio. Funeral services will be at Long’s Church, Fernwood Tuesday at 2:30 p.m Friends are invited. Interment in Long’s cemeter.

The sad news of the death of Mrs Edward T. Ekey, of Fernwood. O., which occurred on last Sunday morning, March 4, 1905, was a great schock to her firends. She had been a sufferer from diabetes and a complication of other diseases for a number of years. Mrs. Ekey was formerly Lucerene Crawford, and was raised near Richmond, O. Mrs. Ekey leaves to mourn her loss besides her faithful husband, the following children: James of Kansas; Mrs. Ed McCullough, of Fernwood, O.; Howard, of the home place and Mary, Hattie and Ida, at home. She was for many years a member at Ekey’s M.E. church. Her funeral services will take place at her home on Tuseday at 10 a.m.; interment in Long’s M. E. cemetery.

Obituary: Edward J. Ekey

Wintersville - Edward J. Ekey, 80, died at 2:30 a.m. May 6, 1991 at his home.

He was a retired accountant for National Steel Corp.; a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Steubenville, where he was a former vestryman; an Air Force veteran of World War II; and a member of the Steubenville Shrine Club; Pilgrim Lodge F&AM 691; Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville; American Legion Post 577, Wintersville; and Wintersville Lions Club. He was a volunteer for Primetime.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Lewis Ekey of Wintersville; one sone, James H. Ekey of Richmond; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Maribeth) Modney of Cleveland; and three grandchildren.

He was born June 26, 1910, in Steubenville, a son of the late Howard and Sabra Oliver Ekey. He also was preceded in death by a brother and sister

Obituary: Elizabeth Ekey

Wintersville - Elizabeth Ekey, 81, of Wintersville, a school teacher for the Indian Creek School District when she retired, died Feb 10, 1994 in Ohio Valley Hospital

She was a former member of the Indian Creek School Board. She also held membership in St. Paul E[piscopal Church, Steubenville; Altar Guild; Episcopal Church Women; Ladies Shrine; Wintersville Woman’s club; Order of the Eastern Star LaBelle Chapter 414 and Family Services board of directors.

Surviving are a sone, James at home; a daughter, Maribeth Modney of Cleveland; and three grandchildren.

She was bon March 3, 1912, in Steubenville, daughter of the late James and Daisy Braun Lewis. Her husband Edward J. Ekey, preceded her in death in 1991.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. Saturday St. Paul Episcopal Church until funeral services there at 3 p.m., the Rev John H. Shumaker; Union Cemetery.

Ellsworth Ekey

Death claimed “Elsie” Ellsworth Ekey, Age 68, this morning (April 2, 1935) at four o’clock at his home in Stratton, Ohio. He had been ill one week with pneumonia.

Mr. Ekey, the son of James and Maria Ekey, was born at Cross Creek, May 20, 1866 and had been a resident of Stratton for 45 years.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. J. B. Nixon, Charles Ekey, Stratton: Mrs. Theodore Reece, Alikanna and Mrs. Elmer Maloney, Cleveland. One brother, John, Stratton, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

His wife, Mrs. Margaret Ekey and one son, James, preceded him in death. The deceased is a grand father of Delbert Nixon, representative to the General Assembly from this district.

Funeral services will be held from the late home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, with the Reverent. C. A. Dougherty, pastor of the Empire Methodist Protestant church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Toronto Union cemetery.

Emma Ekey

Mrs. Emma Dunlap Ekey, 95, of 309 3rd Street, Stratton, died at the Forester Nursing Home, Wintersville, Ohio at 9:30 a.m. today, July 26, 1973.

She was born December 15, 1877, in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Ekey came to Stratton (Ekeyville) in January of 1902, when she and Mr. Ekey were married and has lived there the rest of her lifetime. She was a member of the Empire Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Robinson of Canton, Mrs. Esther MacMillan of Stratton; one son, Wilbur H. Ekey of Canton; one sister, Rachel Jones of Sunberry; and one brother, Lewis Dunlap of Grove Hill, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Ekey, in 1961.

The body was removed to the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto, where arrangements are pending (Funeral Service was at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto; the Reverent Mr. Roy Walther and the Reverend Mr. Norman Rose;. Burial is at Sugar Grove Cemetery near Empire, Ohio.)

Emma Ekey

Miss Emma Ekey, 69, a life resident of this vicinity, died at 2 p.m. Monday in the hospital at Port Clinton, Ohio. She had been in failing health for the last two years.

Born April 29, 1885, in Steubenville, Miss Ekey spent most of her life in Wintersville. She was a member of the Wintersville Methodist Church, the Woman’s Society of Christian Services of the church, and had taught Sunday School for many years.

Miss Ekey left her home in Wintersville three weeks ago to stay with her sister, Miss Viola Ekey of Lakeside, Ohio.

Surviving are two sisters, Miss Viola Ekey, and Mrs. J. L. Buchanan of Alliance, and several nieces and nephews in the vicinity. Her Parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Lakeside Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lakeside. –The Herald-Star, Steubenville, Ohio, Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1954

Frank M. Ekey

Frank McCullough Ekey, Steubenville R.D. 2 died at Ohio Valley hospital Wednesday at 6 p.m. following an operation.

He was born at New Alexandria July 3, 1873, the son of Matthew and Elizabeth McCullough Ekey, both deceased. He was married to Etta Humter December 6, 1897 and to this union were born four children; Mrs. Verda Wells, Harry, Donald and Wayne Ekey at home.

Two sisters alslsurvive, Mrs Dora Brown and Mrs Emma Frazier at New Alexanderia; Also seven grandchildren

He was a member of Cross Creek Presbyterian church, the Farm Bureau and Grange. He had been a life-long resident of Jefferson county, a prominent dairyman and farmer, retiring several years ago.

Miss Harriet Ekey

SCIO - Miss Harriet Ekey, 87, died Sunday at 7 p.m. in her home. She had been in failing health for a number of years.

A native of Fernwood, Ohio, who was born Feb 26 1867m a daughter of the late Edward and Serena Crawford Ekey

She had made her home at Scio since 1918 and was member of the Methodist Church

She is survived by two sisters, Miss Mary Ekey and Miss Ida Ekey of Scio; and severeal nephews, including Oliver Ekey of Steubenville.

Harry Ekey

New Philadelphia--Harry F. Ekey, 91, of 235 Beaver Ave., formerly of East Springfield, died April 30, 1992, in Union Hospital, Dover.

Mr. Ekey was a carpenter at Wheeling-Pittsburg Steel Corp. when he retired in 1966 and a retired farmer. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge in Jefferson County.

He also was former director of the Jefferson County Agriculture Society; a former Cross Creek Township school board member, a former trustee for East Springfield Church of the Cross, a former Republican central committeeman in Jefferson County and a former township trustee.

Surviving are his wife, A. Esther McCullough Ekey, whom he married July 4, 1937; one son, Harry of Carrollton; ond daughter, Mrs John (Audrey) Paul of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, four steapgrandchildren and nine great-step grandchildren.

He was born March 3, 1901, in Steubenville, sone of the late Franklin McCullough and Etta Rosanna Hunter Ekey. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Scio - Miss Ida Ekey, 89, of Scio, formerly the matron at the old McCullough’s Childrens Home at Wellsville, died Sunday in the Sunnyslope Nursing Home, Bowerston.

She was a member of the Scio Methodist Church.

She leaves a sister, Miss Mary Ekey of the nursing home and a nephew Edward Ekey of Steubenville.

J. Wayne Ekey

J. Wayne Ekey, 69, of Cadiz Road, RD2, Steubenville, sealer of weights and measures and appraiser of new construction for the Jefferson County auditor’s office before his retirement, died Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in Ohio Valley Hospital.

Ekey retired Aug. 18, 1969, after 30 years with the auditor’s office. He had worked for six county auditors, serving last with Stephen J. Hamrock.

His former farm at the top of the east bank of Reed’s Hill is being developed by AIRC Realty Inc. as the Evamaria Estates subdivision. He was a member of the Starkdale United Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary Jane) Desman of Steubenville and Mrs. Edward (Ruth Ellen) Posti of Wellsburg; a brother, Harry Ekey of Bloomingdale; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Verda) Wells, Sr. of Wintersville, and one grandchild.

He was born April 19, 1908, in Steubenville, a sone of the late Frank and Etta Hunter Ekey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Hutton Ekey, in 1969. Mrs. J. Wayne Ekey

Mrs. Ruth Hutton Ekey, 57, wife of J. Wayne Ekey of Cadiz Road, RD2, Steubenville, a deputy (sealer of weights and measures) in the Jefferson County Auditor’s office, died today in her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Ekey was a member of Starkdale United Presbyterian Church.

She leaves two daughters, Miss Mary Jane Ekey, a student at Ohio University in Athens, and Ruth Ellen Ekey at home, a brother, John R. Hutton of Cadiz Road, RD2, Steubenville; a sister Mrs. L. W. (Margaret) Fisher of San Mateo, Calif; two half sisters, Mrs. Leroy (Jean) Richards of Pittsburgh and Mrs. H. A. (Celeste) Graham, Jr. of Cuyahuga Falls.

James E. Ekey

Wintersville– James E. Ekey, 80, of Wintersville died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999 at his home.

Born Jan. 2, 1919, in Cross Creek, he was a son of the late A. Wesley and Jennie Ekey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Harry, in 1945; a brother, John; two sisters, Ruth Weaver and Grace Freas; and his step mother, Roma Beatty Ekey.

An Army veteran, he was a tankerman for ARCO and was a member of the Wintersville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Alberta Wallace Ekey; and two sons, Howard L. of Perry, Ga., and James Edward of Lynn, Mass.

John H. Ekey

Martins Ferry – John H. Ekey, 69 of Scotch Ridge, RD 1, Martins Ferry, a native of Steubenville and a retired employee of Weirton Steel Division, died Monday night in Martins Ferry Hospital.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edna M. Thorburn Ekey; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Joyce Ann) Dorsch of Colerain and Margaret Thorburn Ekey at home; a brother, James Ekey of Wintersville and one grandson.

Obituary: John Howard Ekey

John Howard Ekey was born at Fernwood, O., October 31, 1872, was converted in early childhood, and united with the Long Methodist Episcapal church near Fernwood. He married to Sabra Oliver, November 16 1899, by Rev. W. D. Slease, of Pittsburgh, Pa. To this union were born three children, Mary Serena, Oliver and Edward J., all at home; who together with his wife and four sisters, are left to mourn their loss. He moved to Steubenville in 1912, and being a carpenter, he engaged in contracting, making friends in the business world. In recent years he has been engaged in real estate and coal. Mr Ekey was one of Steubenvilles”s well known and highly respected citizens. Quiet and unassuming, interested in everything pertaining to the uplift of the community, devoted to his church, kindly and genial, a true friend, an unselfish neighbor, a faithful and loving husband and father. Since living in Steubenville, he has been a faifthful and efficient member of the La Belle View Methodist Episcopal church, being a trustee and also treasurer of the building fund at the time of his death. His influence was for good and he will be greatly missed in the home, church, and community. John Wesley (Cap) Ekey

John W. (Cap) Ekey, 91, a pioneer resident of Stratton and a tugboat captain on the Ohio River for many years, died Tuesday, July 25, 1961, at 11:14 a.m. . in Ohio Valley Hospital. He had been in failing health for some time.

Mr. Ekey held a captain’s license and owned and operated his own tugboat on the Ohio River for many years before retiring

He came to Stratton with his family in 1880 at the age of 10. The village was then known as Ekeyville, named after his pioneer family which then owned the land on which Stratton now stand.

Mr. Ekey served three terms as mayor of Stratton a number of years ago.

He was a life member of the Empire Methodist Church.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Emma Dunlap Ekey; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ekey Robinson of Canton and Mrs. Esther Ekey MacMillan of Chicago; a son, Wilbur H. Ekey of Canton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a nephew, Charles Ekey of Ravenna, Ohio.

Mr. Ekey was born December 12, 1869 in Knoxville, Ohio, a son of the late James and Jane Cooper Ekey.

Friends may call at the Clarke Funeral Home in Toronto from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Margaret Ekey

Harlem Springs--Mrs Margaret Bruce Ekey, 87, a life resident of Jefferson County, died Wednesday at 8:55 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary McCue of Harlem Springs. Mrs. Ekey had been in failing health several years. She had resided with he daughter for three years.

Mrs. Ekey was born in Tiltonsville Oct. 6. 1868, the daughter of the late Josiah and Margaret Wood Aken.

She had been an active member of Tiltonsville Methodist Church and the WCTU. She was organizer and directror of the Band of Hope, an early youg people’s organization in Tiltonsville.

Mrs. Ekey leaves her daughter, Mrs McCue; two sons, Charles D. of New Orleans, La. and Josiah D. of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Two sisters and four brothers are deceased. Her husband, Charles, died in 1928.

Margaret T. Ekey

Martins Ferry – Margaret T. Ekey, 45, of Heartland Lansing Nursing Home, Bridgeport, formerly of Scotch Ridge and Mercer Road, died Feb. 6, 1993, in East Ohio Regional Hospital.

She was the owner/operator and manager of Marg’s Boutique, Shadyside, and a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Harold (Joyce Ann) Dorsch of Pleasant Grove.

She was born March 8, 1947, in Steubenville, a daughter of the late John and Edna Thorburn Ekey. She also was preceded in death by one brother.

Miss Mary Ekey

Funeral servuces for Miss Mary Florence Ekey, 72, of Hilton Head Island, S. C., a native of Island Creek Township, Jefferson County will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Dunlope Funderal Home, Wintersville. Miss Ekey died Monday in her home.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 12-4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mt Tabor Cemetery, Jefferson County.

Miss Ekey formerly taught at Mt. Tabor School and was a registered nurse in Elmsford N.Y., for many years until her retirement in 1961.

Obituary: Mary Emma Ekey

Scio - Miss Mary E. Ekey, 95, of Scio, died in the Sunnslope Nursing Home, Bowerston, Saturday afternoon. She was a retired missionary of the Methodist Church.

Surviving is a nephew, Edward Ekey of Wintersville.

Miss Ekey was born Feb. 18, 1878 in Fernwood, Jefferson County, a daughter of the late Edward T. and Serena Crawford Ekey.

Matthew Ekey

One of the oldest residents of Cross Creek Township, Matthew Ekey, passed away on Friday even, April 29th about 10 o’clock, after a long and useful life, all of which was spent in the same township and county. Mr. Ekey was 93 years of age, and was born and lived his entire life in the same locality. His death resulted from the infirmities of age.

Mr. Ekey was a farmer by profession, a man of splendid character and a citizen of the highest type. He was a member of Cross Creek Presbyterian Church. His life was one of usefulness and attention to duty, and he died with the respect and esteem of his community.

His wife passed away about four years ago, but the following children survive: Frank, of Steubenville; Mrs George Brown, of New Alexandria, and Emma, at home. Funeral arrangements will be announced. Roma Ekey

Mrs. Roma Beatty Ekey, 82, a former resident of Wintersville, died at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday in the Presbyterian Home for Aged in Pittsburgh where she had resided the past two years.

Mrs. Ekey was a former Presbyterian missionary to India. She served in India from 1909 until 1938, when she returned to the United States and Married Wesley Ekey. Her husband preceded her in death in 1953.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Steubenville.

She leaves two son, James E. Ekey of Wintersville and John H. Ekey of Martins Ferry; a daughter, Mrs. James (Ruth) Weaver of Steubenville; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Luthy of Dover, Ohio and Mrs. Myra Cook and Mrs. Grace Stickle, both of Florida; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a grandson.

Mrs. Ekey was born Dec. 27, 1880, at Scott Ridge, Belmont County, Ohio, a daughter of the the late John S. and Almeda Thorburn Beatty.

Friends may call at the Dunlope Funeral Home in Wintersville from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Funeral home. The Rev. Obituary: Mrs Sabra Ekey

Mrs. Sabra Oliver Ekey, 88, of 1212 Wellesley Ave, died at 11 a.m. Saturday in her home. She had been ill five years and seriously ill one week.

She was born Sept. 12 1870, in Rush Run, the daughter of the lae William and Mary V. Jones Oliver.

Mrs. Ekey was a member of the LaBelle View Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star No. 414, the WSCS of the church and the Steubenville Womans’ Club.

Her husband J. Howard Ekey, died in 1921

Mrs. Ekey leaves one son, Edward J. Ekey of Steubenville; two nephews, Paul E. Oliver of Cincinnati and Howard McCullough of Scio, and six grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Serena Ekey; two borthers, and a sister preceded her in death.

Friends may call at the McClave Funderal Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in McClave Chapel. The Rev. Mr. Ray L. Krepps will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Sarah Ekey

Mrs. Sarah Ekey, a highly esteemed lady of Island Creek township, died Thursday morning at her home near Mt. Tabor, in the 80th year of her age. Her maiden names was Jackman, she being a member of one of the oldest and wealthest familes of that part of the county. She leaves but one child, Albert, who lives on the home place. Mrs. James McClain, of this place is a niece of the deceased. -- –The Herald-Star, Steubenville, Ohio, September 12, 1900.

Wilbur H. Ekey

Wilbur H. Ekey, 67, of 927 Shadyside SW, Canton, Ohio, formerly of Stratton, died in the Altman Hospital, Canton, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Ekey was a retired rigger and had worked for Republic Steel Corp.

He was a member of the Empire Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lenora Hill Ekey; one daughter, Mrs. Theodore (Barbara) Boldt of Sarasota, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Robinson of Canton and Mrs. Esther Macmillan of Stratton; four grandchildren.

He was born June 5, 1906, in Stratton.

William T. Ekey

William T. Ekey, aged 83 years, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 1913, on his farm in Island Creek township, after an illness of seven months with a complication of diseases. Mr. Ekey was born and spent all his life on the farm on which he died and was held in high regard by the community in which he lived for so many years, following the vocation of a farmer. He was also quite well known in Steubenville, being a visitor to this city one or more times each week until illness forced him to remain at home. He was a devout member of Ekey M. E. church. Those who survive are his wife, who was Theresse Bush, and one brother, Mathew, of near New Alexandria. --Steubenville Weekly Gazette, 3 Mar 1913
