Steve Meyers Collection Received at AHS

This spring the Almond Historical Society received several boxes from Stephen and Betsy Myers, which contained examples of Steve's photography.  Working from their home in Almond, Steve's photographs fall into three categories:  advertising, educational and promotional.

There are ads from magazines and posters for a wide range of clients including American Airlines, Avon Cosmetics, Citibank, Con Edison, Corning Inc, DuPont, Eastman Kodak, Gunlocke, Kellogg's, Remington and Revlon.  There's also a small metal Kellogg's corn flakes box.

Educational photos include the nuclear dump protest in Allegany County, tourism, nature and wildlife, large botanical prints, architecture, Indian masks of the Museum of Natural History in NYC (The Indian masks are included in a book, From the Land of the Totem Poles:  The Northwest Coast Indian Art Collection at the American Museum of Natural History by Aldona Jonaitis -- available at the Almond Library.)

There are photos of famous people and our friends and neighbors -- Native American activists Russell Means and Dennis Banks, DJ Don Imus when he was famous in NY (not infamous) -- also Jack Harvey, Glen and Pat Fairchild and the Rossmans.

Promotional items include  "Life" magazines "Best" Magazine Photography of the Year" 1998 and 1999.  Also area artists Robert Turner, Wayne Higby, Ted Randall, John Gill, Corporate annual reports, and much more. . .

Steve's work is as broad and diverse as America, but his home and studio were for many years in Almond.  This new photography acquisition will be on display in the Hagadorn House gallery this summer.
