Lou Sheffield

MANTACHIE – Lou Allie Moore Sheffield, 85, claimed her room in Heaven 
(John 14:1-4) on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009. She was born in Prentiss County on 
Oct. 20, 1923, to James Lesley and Minnie Modena Files Moore. 

The family lived in Prentiss and Itawamba Counties, then moved to Sheffield, 
Ala. She returned to Itawamba County after her marriage to Lee Roy Sheffield. 
She graduated from Itawamba High School and Larimore Business College in 
Florence, Ala., and attended classes at the University of Mississippi and Itawamba 
Junior College, where she served as dietitian and cafeteria manager for 22 years.

Following her retirement in 1973 she gained the freedom to enjoy nature and 
gardening. She stayed busy with her grandchildren, tree farm, her love of flowers 
as well as the Edelweiss Garden Club, Itawamba Historical Society, and the 
Fulton and Mantachie Methodist Churches. 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at McNeece-Morris 
Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin officiating. 
Burial will follow at Center Star Cemetery at Mantachie.

Survivors include one daughter, Dena Sheffield Steele (Dan) of Tupelo; three 
grandchildren, Kristen Londe (Alex) of Jackson, Tenn., Megan Buckner (Eddie) 
of Vicksburg and Mason Sheffield of Memphis; five great-grandchildren, Addie 
Shaw, Ruth Anne, Steele, Laney Pearce and Stella Louise; one very special longtime
 friend, Milton Nabors; and several nieces and nephews.

Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Sheffield; son, Lanny
 Sheffield; four brothers, Ruie Moore, Roy Moore, Raymond Moore and 
Dallas Moore, all of Sheffield, Ala.; one sister, Odessa Moore Hicks of 
Jonesboro, Ark.; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Mason Sheffield, Doug Thrash, Randy Beane, Randy Boyd, 
Edd Calvert, David Kelso, Allen Moore and Larry Pate.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Edelweiss Garden Club and her 
Itawamba High School basketball team.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 10, 2009, and 9 a.m. to 
service time Wednesday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
