James Carroll Archer, Ret., 58, who died Wed., Jan. 5, 2005 in Tippah County as the result of a helicopter accident were held Sun., Jan. 9, 2005 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Amory with Bro. Aubrey Boren and Bro. Tom Sheffield officiating. Interment followed in Haughton Memorial Park in Amory with full military honors. E. E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory was in charge of arrangements. Maj. Archer was born July 15, 1946 in Amory to J.C. and Lorine Williams Archer, Jr. He grew up in the Wren Community and was a graduate of Amory Schools, class of 1964. He was a graduate of Thomas Edison ST. college and attended Mississippi State University where he was in the Maroon Band. He was married to Marsh Tabbert in 1970. He was in the ROTC and was a longtime member of the Army National Guard, serving in the 155th Armored Brigade-Aviation Sector. He was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board. He was employed by Air Methods Corporation and worked as an acromedical pilot for North Mississippi Medical Center's Flight Services. He was a member of the Association of Pilots of America, the Professional Helicopter Pilots Association, and the Mississippi Firefighters Association. He was a founding member of the Wren Fire Department. He enjoyed sports, working in his shop and was an Amory Panthers fan. He enjoyed his family. James was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. He leaves his family, his coworkers and countless friends with many precious memories. Though we miss him dearly, his kind heart and friendly smile will radiate in our hearts forever. Survivors include his wife, Marsha Tabbert Archer of Wren; his mother, Lorine Archer of Wren; one daughter, Leigh Ann Erikson and husband, Chris, of Clarksville, Tenn.; three brothers, Kenneth Archer and wife, Candy, of Wren, Ronald Archer and wife, Doris, or Wren and Walter Archer and wife, Patricia, of Houston; one grandchild, Campbell Leigh Erikson; 12 nieces and nephews, John Isaac Cox, Bridget Carter, C ole Archer, Kerry Archer, Brittany Archer, Brandon Archer, Matthew Archer, Anna Archer, heather Goza, Josh Tabbert, Chandler Chauvin and Kelsey Chauvin; four great-nieces and nephews, Chandler Carter, McKenzie Carter, Matthew Reed and Taylor Tabbbert. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Dave and Lela Mae Willliams and Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Archer. Pallbearers were members of the Wren Volunteer Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers were the North Mississippi Air Flight Crew and Emergency Medical SERvices staff.
