BEAUTY QUEENS

I cannot cite the newspaper which these articles were taken from since they were cut out and pasted in a scrapbook. I have typed the articles and cropped the pictures in an attempt to make the files a reasonable size for display. Contact me if you would like a copy of the original scan that Talea provided.
 
 

ARTICLE 1

"Miss Lucie Catherine GATES of Philipp, was chosen 'Miss Tallahatchie' at the Tallahatchie county beauty review recently held at Charleston. Miss Gates won over a field of twenty-three contestants. She will represent Tallahatchie county at the Cotton Carnival at Clarksdale and at the Tri-State Fair at Memphis. Miss Gates attended the Greenwood High School, graduating with the class of 1936. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Gates of Philipp."
