Jan. 8 E. Berniece Pabst Mitchell Esche, 98, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away January 8, 2011, in Ocean Springs; born January 8, 1913 in Ocean Springs. She married her first husband, Preston A. Mitchell, on August 2, 1958 in Little Rock, AK. Mr. Mitchell's died in 1970. On October 9, 1982, she married William Esche of Milwaukee, WI; Mr. Esche died in 2000. She began volunteering with the Ocean Springs Hospital Auxiliary in 1977 and logged over 7000 hours serving in the hospital gift shop.

Robert (Bob) Irving, 83, of Gautier, MS passed away January 8, 2011 at Keesler Air Force Base. Mr. Irving was born in Lula, MS on April 8, 1927.  His parents were the late Myrtle and Denva Irving.

Mr. Glenn Alan Ryen, 83, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away at his home January 9, 2011. Mr. Ryen was born January 28, 1927 in Kitsap County, Washington. Mr. Ryen was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Brynhild Ryen; two brothers, Sidney and Freddie Ryen all from Bremerton, WA and a great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Davis Goodrich from Laurel, MS.

Mrs. Pearl Hannaford, 93, of Moss Point, MS, died January 10, 2011. She was born July 30, 1918 in Tupelo, MS. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church SBC of Moss Point where her late husband J.T. Hannaford served as minister of music for many years. John G. Welch, 81, of Moss Point, MS passed away January 11, 2011 in Moss Point. John was born on May 10, 1929 in Birmingham, AL. He was retired from the City of Moss Point, where he served as the recreation director. John organized the pee wee football, basketball, and softball leagues as well many other programs for the youth of Moss Point and Jackson County. He was very active in all aspects of Moss Point Athletics. He served as an alderman for two terms. He also served as the Civil Defense Director for Moss Point. John was instrumental in designing and developing the Veteran's Memorial on the Moss Point Riverfront as well as organizing the annual veteran's day parade. He was a proud veteran, serving with the United States Marine Corps where he received the Purple Heart Citation and Medal during the Korean Conflict. Maudie Rae Simmons, 92, of Pascagoula, MS passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Ocean Springs, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Annie Gaskin; a brother, J. R. Myrtle Henley Heidelberg, 93, of Pascagoula, MS passed away January 18, 2011. She was born on June 5, 1917 in Slidell, LA, to the late John D. and Lucille M. Henley. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula where she held the longest membership and was a member of the Rebekah Sunday school class. Her civic activities included being a charter member and past president of the Anola Club, a volunteer with the Singing River Hospital Auxilary and a member of the Thursday Bridge Club. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, H.P. (Pat) Heidelberg, Jr.; her brother  J.C. (J.B.) Henley and her sisters, Lyda Peak and Hurstle Lee Ferrer. Ralph Glen "Curley" Blackstock, 84, of Gautier, MS, passed away on January 19, 2011 in Pascagoula, MS. He was born April 11, 1926 to the late Claude and Vada Blackstock in Prayco, AL. He was of the Baptist faith. Curley worked at Dixie Glass and Trim for many years. Henry "Captain Red" Wieniewitz, 92, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in Ocean Springs, MS. Mr. Wieniewitz was born on January 19, 1919, in Pass Christian, MS, the first of five children born to William Vinn and Antonia Onheiser Wieniewitz. He was baptized at Nativity Cathedral in Biloxi and was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moss Point, MS. This son of a fisherman loved the Gulf, the salt air, and being behind the Captain's wheel. His mariner life began as a deckhand on the shrimp and oyster schooners of Biloxi at the young age of 14. At 19, he took pride in his new
title of Captain Red and his first shrimp boat, The Lanny Boy, working for Biloxi's Southern Shell Shrimp Factory. He later captained in the oil industry running crew, supply, and research vessels along coastal MS, LA, and TX and spent many summers as Captain on the Pan American and Pan American Clipper excursions to Ship Island. Captain Red and his "hon"," Cecelia Gladys Landry, were married in Biloxi on February 14, 1938. They were blessed with four daughters and three sons, and a host of precious grand, great, and great-great grandchildren. Moss Point was home for 47 years, until moving back to Biloxi in 2010, where the last Wieniewitz Thanksgiving gathering numbered over 85. Mr. Wieniewitz was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Eva Olier Wieniewitz; brother, Vincent Alfred Wieniewitz; sister, Julia Kail; and son-in-law, Anthony M. Dartez. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict in which earned numerous medals and citations including the Bronze Star with clusters. Jan. 31 Dorothy (Dot) Ophelia (Cauley) Clark, 84, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011; born in Kreole, MS on December 20, 1926. She devoted her life to the loving care of her husband and nurture of 11 children, 28 grandchildren and 31 great-grand children. Normawas born in Montgomery, AL on March 8, 1930 and raised in Corinth, MS before moving to the MS Gulf Coast.  She was a loyal member of Dantzler Memorial
United Methodist Church in Moss Point. A celebration of life will be held from Dantzler Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Greer officiating.

Joseph "Jo Jo" Wilfred Moran IV, 24, of Ocean Springs, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, in Ocean Springs. Joseph was born in Biloxi and remained a lifelong resident of the coast.

Ora Coleman, 71, of Hurley, MS passed away February 25, 2011 in Mobile, AL. She was born on June 28, 1939 in Unity, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, O. W. Coleman, and her son Patrick Brian Coleman. A celebration of life service from the funeral home chapel with Brother John Grimes officiating.

Richard Craig Harder Jr.,  29, of Jackson County, died February 25, 2011.

"Papa Joe" Edward Hyde, 69, of Ocean Springs, MS,  passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011 in Ocean Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie D. and Nora Hyde, brothers, Oneal and Preston Hyde, and sister, Barbara Wallace. Papa so graciously donated his body to science for cancer research.
Feb. 26 Bobby N. Padgett, 62, of Forts Lake, MS, passed away February 26, 2011 in Mobile, AL. Mr. Padgett was born in Gulfport, MS. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict. He was also a member of Union Baptist
Church in Grand Bay, AL. Preceded in death by his parents V. L. (Doc) and Cleo Padgett.

Charles E. Hancock, 86, of Gautier, died on February 27, 2011. Mr. Hancock was born October 14, 1924 in Henderson, Kentucky to the late Arch and Gertrude Hancock. He served his country in the United States Navy in WWII. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gautier. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lucille Hancock; son-in-law, Robert D. Shull; 8 brothers and one sister .Memorial Mass at St Mary's Catholic Church, Gautier, MS.

Mr. James Riley Miles, Sr., 87, of Moss Point, MS, passed away February 27, 2011, in Pascagoula. He was born November 5, 1923, in Jackson County, MS. Mr. Miles was a United States Merchant Marine and Air Force veteran having served
in World War II and in Korea. Mr. Miles was preceded in death by his parents, Dantzler "Doc" and Mary Wells Miles; Myrna Bennett Miles, devoted wife of 50 years; sister, Lucy "Cooter" Hillman and step-son Gregg Simms.
