RootsWeb Soundex Name Converter
Surname:

The Soundex indexing system was developed as a means of searching for people in the Federal Censuses.  The system uses no vowels and omits those consonants that share sounds with other letters.  The Soundex system is very helpful to researchers in that it makes you think about all the possible spelling variations you might need to consider.  An in-depth history and explanation of the system is available here.
