SOUTHEYAdaline27 Apr 18581 May 1858SOUTHEY, ADALINE At Mt. Washington Balt. County, On the 27th inst., Mrs. Adaline Southey, wife of James Southey, after a protracted illness of six weeks which she bore with truly Christian patience and fortitude. We say Christian fortitude, for it has been our privilege to visit her sick chamber for the last six weeks. In health her disposition was lovely and amiable, and under the afflicting hand of God we found her as humble as a lamb at the slaughter, never murmuring, but ever exclaiming the will of the Lord be done. May her relatives and friends cease to mourn but rather rejoice that she has passed away and exchanged this world of sorrow for a world of bliss, knowing that it is their privilege to go to her, and also be permitted to range the blessed fields of the new Jerusalem.
With cheerful hope her eyes explore
Each landmark on the distant shore;
The trees of life, the pastures green,
The golden streets, the crystal stream;
Again for joy she claps her wings,
And aloud her lovely sonnet sings.
By a friend, E. V. F.

SPRIGGSJohn Edward6 Jan 18946 Jan 1897In Memorium SPRIGGS - In loving remembrance of JOHN EDWIN SPRIGGS, who departed this life three years ago today, January 6, 1894. Three years ago,
dear John, O can it be
Three weary years I've mourned for thee;
And yet it seems so fresh, the pain,
I count them o'er and o'er again.
Each day I miss thy loving face,
since thou wast called away;
The loss was mine, thine the gain,
And I can only pray.
By his mother.

Released from all their earthly cares,
They'll reign with Him on high.

Then why for departed friends lament,
Or shake at death's alarms;
Death is but the servant Jesus sent
To call her to His arms.

STEWARTSarah D.7 Jan 187310 Jan 1873STEWART - On the 7th of January, 1873, SARAH D., beloved wife of James M. Stewart, aged 29 years and 3 months. Come and kiss your mother, darling,
Lay your head upon my breast,
Put your little arms around me,
Say good night and go to rest.
Softer lips than mine will kiss you,
But my darling you will never
Find the love that leaves you now.

Husband, take my little darlings,
Put them tenderly to bed;
Love them, husband, when they waken,
I will be among the dead.

Soon this life-dream will be ended,
Soon this struggling breath willcease;
Farewell, husband, lead my darlings
In the ways of truth and peace.

Husband, when the violets open,
When the trees in beauty wave,
Take my little ones and lead them
Gently to their mother's grave.

Tell them, while the birds are singing
And the blossoms deck the sod,
That their mother's soul is resting
In the paradise of God.

By Her Brother

Thou are gone to the grave-we no longer behold thee nor tread the rough paths of the world by thy side. But the wide arms of mercy are spread to enfold thee. And sinners may hope since the sinless has died. Thou art gone to the grave and its mansions forsake, Perhaps thy tired spirit in doubt lingered long, But the sunshine of heaven beamed bright on waking, And the song which thou hearist was the seraphim song. Thou are gone to the grave, but #twere wrong to plore thee. When God was thy ransom, thy guardian and guide. He gave thee and took thee, and soon will restore thee. Our brother, oh! our brother,
Our souls are sad tonight;
We're thinking of the fatal news,
The dark and withering blight
That fell upon our spirits
When on light'ning wings it sped,
And told us thou, beloved one,
Wert sleeping with the dead.

Loving hands had tried to save him,
Physicians were in vain;
