Weep not, mother, weep not, father, All your weeping is in vain; Though I leave you bowed in sorrow, We shall meet in joy again, Do not mourn because I leave you, God has called me home to dwell; Kiss me, mother - you too, sister, And forever fare thee well. 'Tis a little grave; but oh, have care, For worldwide hopes lie hidden there. A father's pride, a mother's joy, Is buried with our darling boy. | RUTLEDGE | Jacob | 10 July 1858 | 14 Aug 1858 | RUTLEDGE, JACOB Obituary We regret to announce the death of our worthy friend, Jacob Rutledge, who departed this life after a brief illness, at his Father's residence, Garden Spot, Harford county, on the 10th of July. The loss of the above named gentleman will be deeply felt by all who knew him. He was a devoted son, affectionate brother, and sincere friend; strictly honorable in all his dealing with his fellow men; and industrious to a fault; possessed of a kind and feeling heart, he was always ready to sympathize with, and relieve the sufferings of his fellow creatures. In fact, he was one of nature's noblemen. Though making no profession of Religion, whilst in health, he met death with perfect calmness and resignation to the will of God; thereby leaving the comforting hope to his bereaved family that he is now at rest. This esteemed gentleman was one of the worthiest members of the Masonic Lodge. The Lodge to which he belonged attended his funeral in a large body, giving evidence of their attachment to him. The writer of this Obituary knew him well, and deeply sympathizes with his bereaved family in their affliction. But they do not mourn as those without hope, remembering those words of Scripture, "Blessed are the death which die in the Lord, hence forth; Yea, sayeth the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them." Beltsville, Balt. Co. | Baltimore County Advocate |
