Weep not mother nor father
All your weeping is in vain
Though I leave you bowed in sorrow
We shall meet in joy again
Do not mourn because I leave thee
God has called me home to dwell
Kiss me brother-you to sister
and forever fare the well
Tis but a grave-but oh have care
For world wide hopes he has hidden there
A fathers pride, a mothers joy
is buried with our darling boy.

REESEJohn T.10 Aug 189811 Aug 1898Death of John F. (sic) Reese
The death of John T. Reese, who was one of the best known citizens of Butte, occurred yesterday at his residence in the canyon about one and a half miles east of the poor farm. Mr. Reese was 67 years of age and was for a long time the superintendent of the Parrot smelter. He leaves a wife and six children, five sons and one daughter, the latter being a resident of Utah, while the sons are all in this city. Deceased was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias, but had not officiated with either of the orders in this city. The remains are being embalmed by Richards the undertaker preparatory to being sent to Baltimore, Md., for interment.
Some years ago, Mr. Reese met with an accident on the Union Pacific road somewhere in the neighborhood of Cheyenne and it resulted in the amputation of his left arm. This was followed by one of the most bitterly contested damage suits ever waged in this section. It was brought in the United States court and it resulted in a verdict in favor of the plaintiff for $25,000. This sum Judge Knowles considered excessive and gave Mr. Reese the option of accepting $15,000 or having the verdict set aside and proceeding with a new trial. The gentleman accepted the amount named by the court and the litigation ended.

"Sleep, son, sleep, cold is thy pure white brow;
and on thy pale face a smile of peace is lingering even now.
Sleep, son sleep, we will hush each sorrowing moan;
thine was a life of toil and grief, it is over - thy work is done.
Why should we vainly sigh? Oh why should we weep for thee?
When we know thou has reached that haven of rest where thy soul longed to be.
Sleep, son, sleep." By his mother.

RITTERSylvester13 Apr 189816 Apr 1898RITTER, SYLVESTER Sylvester Ritter, aged 73, for many years a blacksmith on the Belair road at Fullerton, Fourteent district, died Wednesday night of heart trouble. His death was due to a nervous shock received last Monday afternoon under peculiar circumstances.While Ritter was engaged in shoeing a horse a piece of a shoe nail which he was driving flew from beneath the hammer and sruck his little grandson in the face. The boy clapped his hand to his eye and emitted a cry of pain as if it had lodged in the optic. The movement and cry of pain so alarmed Ritter that the nervous shock resulted in his complete collapse. He sank, with the hammer in his hand, unconcious beneath the horse. He was picked up by Henry Williams, owner of the horse which Ritter had been shoeing, and
carried by the latter to his home. Ritter lingered in an unconscious condition until 8 o'clock Wednesday night when he died. Deceased leaves a widow and four children, all of whom are married.
