| MASON | N. Carroll | 4 Apr 1873 | Mason-Departed this life at Alexandria VA,N Carroll Mason, son of the late William J.T.Mason of Temple Hall and grandson of Judge Thomson Mason of revolutionary fame. Inheriting from his ancestors a name equal to any that illistrated the annals of Virginia,he preserved it without spot and without blemish. Gifted with superior intellectual endowments, acquired knowledge added to what nature had so bestowed. His wit was genial and sparkling and no one was ever wounded by its flashes. A kind and unselfish spiritever ruled his action. His friends were many,of his enemies we never heard. In the latter part of his life,he was stricken with blindness,an affliction which he bore with singular fortitude, comforted with the hope that his trial was but for a reason. Death for him had no sting, for his faith was founded upon the Rock of Ages and he welcomed its approach as a release for he knew from the cares and sorrows of this world in the presence of God,at whose right hand are joys forever more. May we imitate his examples and learn to estimate as their true value the vanities of this life and may we like him, seek the "one thing needful" Death a path once trod - Heaven lifts her everlasting portals high - And bids the pure in heart behold their god | Baltimore Sun | |
