LAKEMargaret E.26 Dec 18971 Jan 1898LAKE, Margaret E. Mrs. Margaret E. Lake, aged fifty-three years, wife of Levin Lake, of "Lakeland." in Long Green Valley, died Sunday morning, after a protracted illness. Previous to her marriage she was Miss Margaret E. Williamson and resided at "Inverness," the plantation home of her father Col. M. P. Williamson, near Memphis, Tenn. As a Confederate sympathizer, she frequently visited the military hospitals in the vicinity of her home, and upon one of these visits met Mr. Lake, who was then a captain in the Confederate Army, and who was suffering from a severe wound. Her kindly ministrations during his stay in the hospital resulted later in a reciprocated love, and the were married. At the close of the war Mr. Lake bought a place near Cambridge, his old home, in this state, and lived there with his bride from Tennessee for a number of years. Mr. Lake and three sons survive the wife and mother.

LEONARDMrs Mary28 ??? 18451845On the 28th ult, after a protracted pulmonary illness of seven months, Mrs. Mary Leonard, in the 32nd year of her age, leaving her husband with three small children. Her afflictions were borne with Christian fortitude and resignation, and although in the providence of God, but two months since she was called to endure the loss of a beloved child, in the fourth year of its age, she mourned not, but confided in his promise, that "all things shall work together for good to them that love the Lord." She departed in the full triumphs of the gospel faith; and when the work of death had so beclouded her vision that the forms of her loved ones were no longer visible to her, with that mysterious spiritual sight, which frequently precedes the last moment of the Christian's earthly pilgrimage, she beheld the glories of the upper world, and gave praise to God, "that she was about to join the spirit of her departed babe," in that rest which Christ hath prepared for his faithful disciples.

Fold the robe closely about the still form,
Press the cold lips, which love's kiss cannot warm;
Tears drop like rain on the beautiful head,
Fond hearts are weeping, for father is dead.
Farewell, father, thou hast left us,
For a bright and heavenly sphere;
Providence hast thus bereft us
Of a friend and father dear.
Farewell, father, we, in sadness,
'Round thy lifeless body stand;
While thy spirit waits in gladness,
In the bright and heavenly land.
Farewell, father, gently sleeping,
With a smile upon thy brow,
Which does seem to chide our weeping
For thee, who art happy now.
Farewell, father, thy calm features
Plainly tell us all is well;
Yet it pains our hearts to leave thee,
And to say the last farewell.
Farewell, father, may we meet thee
Where the heavenly chorus swells;
'Midst the happy we will greet thee,
Never more to say farewell.

LEWISMatilda O.15 Nov 184024 Nov 1840OBITUARY. - Departed this life, on Sunday, the 15th inst., Mrs. Matilda O., consort of Mr. William Lewis, of Long Green, and daughter of William Slade, Esq., of My Lady's Manor, Baltimore county. Thus, in the morning of existence, and in the very heyday of hope and happiness, the angel of death has summoned to the grave one of the most amiable and interesting of her sex. She had but recently given her heart and hand to him, who knew how to appreciate your worth, and who is now left to mourn over the wreck of his highest hopes and brightest anticipations. the sun which but yesterday arose on a life of expected happiness, has to-day gone down upon the ruin of all his expectations. The cheerful fireside is deserted; the bridal hall is silent, and the home of his heart is desolate, for she whom he... [sic. No man, perhaps ever sailed oout of this or any other port, who enjoyed the confidence and respect of his employers to a greater degree than did Captain Liscomb. ____ all who have had the pleasure of his acquaintance during his short sojourn in this city, can testify to his many virtues; His gentlemanly deportment, and keen and affable manners, gained for him the esteem of all who knew him. He has left behind him an affectionate wife and three doting children to lament them through and through, it is natural that they should weep and trust that it is not like those who weep without _____ for we are constrained to believe that their loss is eternal gain.
