The Master gave into my hands
A little life to hold;
An unfledged bird for which to care,
A helpless lamb to fold.
I thanked Him through my happy tears
And murmured in my joy.
Into Thy hands I give, dear Lord,
The leading of my boy.
A little while, a happy while,
And then the unstained breath
Of human life went softly out,
And that, they said, was death.
I knew it was not death, but life,
When Jesus stopped to say
I am the Way, the Truth, the Life,
And led my lamb away

Snapp'd from his parent-stem, planted in Heaven;

Yet know there is balm in Gilead to heal.

In that bright, bright world above,
Singing glory to thy Savior,
Filled with everlasting love.

HOOKRichard W31 May 18958 Jun 1895HOOK, Richard W. Mr. Richard W. Hook, died on the 31st ult. at his home in the county, in the ninetieth year of his age. Mr. Hook was born on Falls road, in this county, in 1805. He learned the trade of millwright, and was engaged in the erection of the mills at Woodberry, in which the work of millwrighting was required in such work to a great extent in those days. He lived near Melvale during nearly all of his life. He married Elizabeth Gambrill, who died about nine years ago, aged eighty-one years. As children, both Mr. Hook and his wife heard the bombardment of Fort McHenry, the fathers of both being at the front. In the fifties he was elected sheriff of Baltimore county by a majority of six, and had charge of Crops and Curry, at Towson, who were hanged for murder. He was a man of remarkable memory. Until old age interfered he was engaged in farming. He had ten children, one of whom, the late R. Edwin Hook, was equity clerk in the Clerk's Office at Towson for a number of years, only five are living. They are Chas. A. Hook, assistant city commissioner, Baltimore, Mrs. Robert Bruce, Mrs Edward Owens, Mrs. William Kenty and Miss Laura A. Hook, all of whom live in this county.

Mr. Hughes was out fishing in a boat, and came ashore to warm himself at the home of Thomas Green, not far from the shore. In pulling the boat up on the shore he over-exerted himself. He had hardly seated himself by the stove when he fell over against it in unconscious condition. He was picked up by member of the Green family and carried to a sofa, where he expired an hour later, without ever regaining consciousness. The deceased had conducted a fishing share at Chase for years, and was widely known among anglers. He leaves a wife and four children.

To SUSIE HUNTER, BY HER GRANDFATHER, R.S.H. (Note: Robert S. Hunter)
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is still'd;
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
You'll bury me, dear parents, beneath the hawthorn shade,
And you'll sometimes come and see me, where I am lowly laid;
I shall not forget you, dear parents, when you pass,
With your feet above my head, in the long and pleasant grass.
Oh, I will come again, dear parents, from out my resting place,
Though you'll not see me, dear parents, I shall look upon your face;
Though I cannot speak a word, I shall hearken what you say.
And be often with you when you think I am far away.
