Clasp our father's waxen fingers,
Lay them softly on his breast
Close his eyelids gently
Our father's gone to rest.
On his coffin's downy pillow
Lay our father's head
Lay the precious sleeper gently
In his strange and lonely bed
Weeping children cease to mourn
And meekly kiss the coffin
Knowing our father you will find
Safe in the arms of God.
By his children

HENDERSONAndrew F.15 Apr 184216 Apr 1842Died from injuries received in the explosion of the steamboat MEDORA: Andrew F. Henderson, Esq., President of the Company, died about 11 o'clock yesterday morning; he had inhaled the steam, and fatal consequences ___ed from this cause. (Balto. American)- It is with unfeigned sorrow that we place at the head of this list the name of ANDREW F. HENDERSON, Esq., President of the Baltimore and Norfolk Steam Packet Company. It appears that at the time of the explosion Mr. H. was in the forward part of the boat, and was found after the explosion very much scalded. The steam which he inhaled at the same time produced his death, after lingering until half past eleven o'clock yesterday morning. Almost to the last Mr. Henderson retained a perfect consciousness of his approaching end, and yesterday morning with great calmness he made suitable disposition of his temporal affairs. He was a true Christian - unobtrusive and retiring in his manners - active useful and enterprising as a citizen - and estimable in all the relations of life.Baltimore Sun, Balto. American

HILLSEliza A.15 Feb 185225 Feb 1852In Cincinnati on the 15th instant f inflammation of the lungs, ELIZA A. aged 3 months and 5 days, only dauhgter of Edwin and Lucinda Hills, late of Baltimore,
In vain is all earth;s beauty round me,
The brilliant day, the glorious night
A dream of sorrow deep hath bound me
ANd fills my spirit with its deadly blight
Around me eyes of tenderness are beaming,
And hearts whose wealth of love to me is given;
But ah, in vain my soul is sadly dreaming
Of a bright formn that soared from earth to Heaven.
I look around for thee, my idol child
And all day listen for thy gladsome voice
Oh, speak to me once more innocent mind,
And make this heart, so lone and sad rejoice
Our home is desolate since thou are gone,
Thy little chair is vacant at the hearth;
We hear no more thy step at early dawn,
And miss at eve thy joyous tones of mirth
But ah, I know that thou in HEaven
An angel art amid that spirit threng
And unto thee a golden harp is given,
To breathe God's praise to rapturous song.
And in that land of brightness I shall see
My Angel child when life is o'er
There, from all pain and sorrow free,
I'll dwell with her forevermore.
Baltimore, February 1852.

Dearest daughter, thou hast left us.
We thy loss most deeply fee;
But 'tis God who hath bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When the day of life is fled;
Then in heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tear is shed.

Is there one who still will linger
Near the spot where I am laid,
And will come and scatter flowers
On the grave that death has made?

Life's morn will soon be ended
And the evening's bells will toll,
Then my heart will know no sorrow
When the pearly gates unfold.

And if, through patient toil, we reach the land
Where tired feet, with sandals loose, may rest,
When we shall clearly know and understand,
I think that we will say: "God knew the best."
