He took part in twenty-two battles and rose from the rank of captain to brigadier-general in 1864 and to major general in 1865. The Second Maryland Regiment, in which was a number of Baltimore county men, including Co. B. F. Taylor, served with Gen Griffin and under him from New Berne, N. C., in 1862, to the time of the final discharge in Washington in 1865. At the close of the war Gen.
