The midnight stars are beaming
Upon a lonely grave.
Where sleepeth without waking
The one we could not save.
Oh, chide me not for weeping,
For sorrow shades my brow.
She has gone from me to Heaven -
I have no dear wife now.
Farewell, dear mother, thou art at rest
And will forever be.
You could not stay on earth with us,
But we can come to thee.
You are not forgotten, mother dear,
Nor will you ever be.
As long as life and memory last
We will remember thee.

CROSSMiss Belle R.18 Nov 188726 Nov 1887Miss Belle R. Cross--Miss Belle R. Cross, aged 28 years, a niece of Mrs. John S. Gittings, died at the city residence of her aunt, St. Paul street and Mt. Vernon Square, Baltimore, on the 18th inst. after a short sickness of peritonitis. Miss Cross was prominent in Baltimore society and a beautiful and accomplished young lady. She was the daughter of William R. Cross and a granddaughter of Thomas Ritchie, of Richmond, Va., the well-known Democratic editor. Her parents reside in Washington, D.C., but she had been living for a long time with Mrs. Gittings, who is a sister of Miss Cross' mother. She was an accomplished horsewoman and took great delight in the Elk Ridge hunts.
He funeral took place from St. Paul's P.E. Church on Monday, 21st inst. The large Church was crowded with friends of the deceased and many stood in the aisles. Rev. Dr. J.S.B. Hodges conducted the services, assisted by Revs. Mr. Harding and Lewis. The service for the dead was intoned by the choir composed of altar boys.
There was a very large collection of beautiful flowers, the contributions of loving friends, which almost filled the chancel and sent their rich perfume throughout the church. There was also numerous flowers not brought into the church, but taken to the grave.
Upon conclusion of the services, the remains were borne to Greenmount Cemetery, where the services were concluded, the following gentlemen acting as pall-bearers: Dr. P. Bryson Wood, Messrs. D.B. CROSSRichard G.29 Dec 18945 Jan 1895CROSS, Richard G. Suddenly, at Ashland, on December 29, RICHARD G., aged 7? years, beloved husband of Eliza Cross.

On another page - Mr. Richard G. Cross, aged about 80 years, for a number of years a flagman of the Northern Central Railway at Ashland crossing, was found unconscious and between the rails Saturday by Mr. John S. Royston. He was taken to his home and died shortly afterward. Death is supposed to have been caused by paralysis. Mr. Cross leaves a widow and several grown children.

Also on another page - Mr. Richard G. Cross, of Ashland, nearly seventy-five years of age, died after a very short illness of paralysis on Saturday. A feeble widow and a daughter sorrows, and three sons with their families deeply mourn. The community and church loses one who was highly esteemed and loved. He had
been a faithful member of Jessop M.E. Church for nearly half a century. He was a brother of Mr. Caleb Cross, of Warren, and Mr. S? Cross, of Woodberry.
His father was Valentine Cross, an earnest exhorter of the Methodist Episcopal Church. His funeral was largely attended at Jessop Church, where the services were heart and soul touching as conducted by Rev. Edward Hayes. The pall-bearers were Messrs. John Kurtz, Uriah Miller, Abraham Ensor, W.W.C. Stewart, Charles Wheeler and Jos. Hoover. Miss Clara Gallahan was organist. The deceased leaves about fifteen grand-children. The family is assured of the profound sympathy of numerous friends.
