Descendants of William PETTICOAT

William Petticoat was transported to Virginia or Maryland by Nicholas Wyatt according to English records, although Cornelious Howard claimed headrights for his transport into MD. His wife may have been named Ruth, for there was a Ruth Peddicoat in Anne Arundel Co in 1712. Presumably his son was John Petticoart who married the widow of John Norwood, Sarah Dorsey, daughter of Col Edward Dorsey and Sarah Wyatt. Records concerning John and his son John Jr. leave confusion as to which was in finacial dispair in the 1720s. The provable lines of descent are from his son William who left a will and son Nathan who moved to Prince Georges Co. It is not known if some of the Peddicords with unknown linage descend from his other sons, John Jr., Nicholas, or Dorsey.

The spelling of the name has many variations, beginning with Petticoat, and includes: Petticoart, Peddicourt, Peddycord, Peddicord, Peddichord, & Pedicors (in an early census).
