Humphrey Belt came to Maryland by 1663 with John, Ann, and Sarah Belt, apparently from Virginia. The foundation of the BELT genealogy was published by Christopher Johnston in the Maryland Historical Magazine some eighty years ago. The family is also covered in Elise Jourdan's Early Families of Southern Maryland Vol 1, Revised, and Robert Barnes' Colonial Families of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Also the family is covered in part in Descendants of Richard and Elizabeth (Ewen) Talbott of Popular Knowle, West River, Anne Arundel County Maryland,Compiled by Ida Morrison (Murphy) Shirk and Harry Wright Newman's Anne Arundel Gentry Vols. 2 & 3.
