I am seeking any information about Christian SMITH, the Revolutionary War soldier, who lived in Allegany Co. for at least 50 years and died about 1848. He was 96 years old when he died, and was living with Christopher SMITH (1840 Census). His daughter, Sarah SMITH GIFT, is my GGG grandmother and I would like more information about her parents and her siblings. One source names her mother as Mary Magdeline EARHART Smith, but that is unconfirmed.

I wonder if anyone who has access to city directories could tell me when was the last date Sophia HUGHES, widow of Samuel was listed. She's in the 1885 Cumberland directory, but not in 1890. I'm trying to narrow down a date of death. Any help would be appreciated. Or, if anyone has access to deed records, maybe they could see when her house at 219 Mechanic Street changed hands (if she owned it). If there are any city directories before 1885, I would be interested. She had a son Samuel HUGHES, which I don't believe is the Samuel HUGHES listed in the 1885 city directory at 245 n. Center St. Samuel was married in 1866 at St. Lukes church, then seems to have dropped off the face of the earth! If someone could follow him from 1866 in the city directories and tell me when he disappeared, that would also be appreciated.
