Seeking information on the SLOAN family in Garrett Co., MD. According to Ellis' Fayette County History my 3rd g-grandfather John SLOAN's family arrived in Henry Clay Twp., Fayette County, PA about 1787 from Ireland. After selling his farm at Sloan's Ford on the Youghiogheny River, he moved with his family to MD, where he died. Several of his children returned to PA.
The 1850 census lists my 2nd g-grandparents in Henry Clay Twp: John SLOAN, b. 1815 PA; his wife Sarah [WHETSTONE], b. 1820 MD, and their children: Hiram [b. 14 Sep 1840 PA]; Margaret A. [b. 1842]; Alfred, my g-grandfather [b. 2 Sep 1844 in Somerfield, Somerset Co., PA] married Martha FINLEY [b. 1850 Westmoreland Co., PA] on 31 May 1866 in West Newton, Westmoreland Co., PA; Catharine [b. 1844 PA]; Mary [b. 1847 PA]; and Reuben [b. 1850 PA]. My 2nd g-grandparents married on 20 Dec 1839 in Washington Co., MD. Alfred and Hiram SLOAN enlisted in the 85th Regiment, Company "H" in the Civil War from Bedford Co., PA When did John Sloan sell his land and exactly where did he move to in MD? Is he the John Sloan living near Grantsville MD in 1800? Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Looking for MCCRACKEN (MECRAKIN etc) family. William MCCRACKEN owned land in 1760's in what is now Green Ridge State Forest. One of his sons, Ovid, inherited some of the land - bought other pieces of it from his siblings. He died about 1815 - his land had been sold before he died, but ended up in court for non-payment. He had a wife, Sarah. Were there any children?? There are Allegany County marriages in the early 1800's (1817- 28) we can't account for. A brother Isaac died in KY - will probated in Washington Co., MD 1784. I can exchange info on other McCracken siblings.
