• When calling the Largo Library with questions relating to genealogy, please use the number for the Genealogy Help Desk: 727-586-7410.
• Please do not re-shelve books or return other materials. Our volunteers count each item returned as a statistic. These counts help us to determine our peak times for service and areas of high demand. Thank you!
• Please continue to bring in flyers or brochures about libraries you visit this year. Thanks!
• When using the microfilm, please rewind the film before returning it to its box. Please do not remove the take-up reel; this will only leave the film in an upside-down and backwards state!
▪ Volunteers are available at the Largo Library to assist researchers in getting started in genealogy and using the library collection. Hours are: Monday through Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. If you would like to volunteer please see Mercedes at the library or email
New Items
New York Times Article Archive
The library has added new subscription database to our collection entitled, The New York Times Article Archive. This provides a complete backfile to the New York Times articles spanning the years Sept. 1851 to present. Articles from 1851 to 1995 are in PDF format with photos and charts. From 1996 it is in text format only with no photos. This database is available for in-library access only. It is located in the Database section of the library catalog.

Thanks to a genealogy enhancement grant awarded by the Pinellas County Library Cooperative we have a new microfilm series.

Ontario Vital Statistics: Registrations of Births, Marriages and Deaths.

This is an index to the births from 1869-1908, marriages from 1801-9123 and deaths from 1869-1933 for the province of Ontario.
Thanks to Pat Mackey for this purchase suggestion. If you have an idea of a larger item or series that you think would be of value to the genealogy collection please let contact Mercedes at the library.

Civil War Compensation Claims Found in the Compiled Military Service of U.S. Colored Troops

During the Civil War, two acts of Congress allowed loyal slave owners whose slaves enlisted or were drafted into the U.S. military to file a claim against the Federal government for loss of the slave’s service. This site offers an index in which you can search either by the slave/soldier or the former slave owner.
