Initiated in 1981, the Holiday Tour of
Historic Homes has grown to become a
significant community project. Each year
a group of houses, and various local museums, are open to tour-goers the Sunday
in December.
Historical
significance as well as local lore and architectural styles all contribute to
the selection of houses and other buildings for the tour. Homeowners often
display beautiful seasonal decorations adding to the festive mood.

Chapter
members volunteer as hostesses and enlighten tour-goers on the histories and
anecdotes about the families who built and lived in these wonderful structures.
Some
locations included in recent years are:
the Georgian Colonial home of Governor John C. Vivian, Historical Mount
Vernon Country Club, a quaint little white church, a ranch house built of
hand-hewn logs, and the magnificent home for the President of the Colorado School
of Mines.
