Established in 1816 from the counties of Haldimand, Lincoln and York. The first settlers were United Empire Loyalists.
This county was dissolved in 1974 and along with the City of Hamilton became the Regional Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth.
"Population 42,619 in 1852 and 358,827 in 1966."3
