Spanish American War - Although
the Spanish American War involved troops from all over the country,
the focus of history has been on the U.S. 1st Volunteer Calvary,
known as the Rough
Riders. The Rough Riders, comprised of troops from Arizona, New
Mexico, and Oklahoma, and led by Teddy Roosevelt, garnered fame
through their exploits at the San
Juan Hills. Yavapai County figures prominently in Rough Rider
history as county sheriff Buckey O'Neill was a primary organizer and
fallen war hero. |
